STAR

The Study of Tamoxifen and Raloxifene
Breast Cancer Prevention Study

The Iowa Oncology Research Association is a participating research site for STAR, The Study of Tamoxifen and Raloxifene.  The research study is being conducted by the National Surgical Adjuvant Breast and Bowel Project (NSABP) and supported by the National Cancer Institute.

In the STAR research study, two drugs, Tamoxifen and Raloxifene, are being evaluated for their effectiveness in reducing the occurrence of breast cancer in women who are at increased risk for the disease.  The drugs, to be taken for 5 years, are provided at no charge for study participants.

The study reached it's enrollment goal of 19,000 women, and is now closed to further enrollment.
